Every roll manufactured undergoes a range of tests during manufacture. On all of the metallising machines measurement of the Aluminium thickness is measured by a monitor across the width of the film. This measurement is fed back to the boat and wire rate settings which are automatically controlled to ensure an even deposition within the specification limits is maintained throughout the roll.

The in line deposition measurements are verified by manual measurements on samples taken off the roll after metallising and slitting. The metallised samples are retained with the final reel Quality sheet. Each off line monitor has a calibration maintained using certified calibration slides to ensure accurate measurement of optical density is produced.

Every input roll into the plant is issued with a Quality Reel Report Sheet. This remains with the roll throughout all stages of production.Items that are recorded on this sheet include Supplier Reel Number,Input Weight,Ultimet Reel Number, Roll Hardness, Output Weights,Output Lengths, Metal Adhesion, Roll Temperature and Optical Density. The metallised sample and suppler reel labels are stored with these sheets for a period of three years.

One of the biggest areas of waste and customer complaint on films is associated with winding quality. This is minimized at Ultimet due to stringent setting of Process Operating Conditions within the machine process control computers. Correct tension levels for a given width are automatically calculated by the product menu. This coupled with automatic tension control from the load cells and drives ensure that winding complaints are minimal.
